Entebbe Zoo: Meeting the Bird

During our training Peace Corps arranged a trip to the Entebbe Zoo (Uganda Wildlife Education Centre). We had a chance to walk around the facility and see some of the African native animals, from a safely enclosed perimeter. One of my best moments was when I was taking some photos of the massive bird and a man approached me to ask if I liked the bird. He said that if I wanted, he would open the gate and let me pet her. I laughed, assuming it was some silly joke. Then he pulled keys from his pocket opened the gate, and introduced me to Sushi, the Shoe-Bill. Thank you zoo-keeper from Entebbe for the nice surprise!

And of course, there were many more lovely animals….
